WRITING/EDITORIAL PHOTOGRAPHY

As an experienced content writer and storyteller, I specialize in crafting engaging, informative, and culturally rich articles that capture the essence of places, people, and experiences. My writing spans a diverse range of formats—from destination features and travel guides to narratives aligned with the tone and mission of PBS programming. Editorial assignments often entail capturing portraits and photographing destinations, aligned with each story’s narrative.

EDITING/PROJECT MANAGEMENT

As a Developmental Editor at John Wiley & Sons, Canada, I was the project manager for the production of university and college textbooks, software, and supplementary materials. I also guided authors through the writing process. While I worked on several manuscripts, I am particularly proud of the authors' dedication in the preface of the best-selling Abnormal Psychology, Canadian Edition.

"Most of our thanks must go to Hal, our fearless, witty and humane editor who has worked very closely with us, typically on a daily basis, over the last six months. He helped us to make our dream, the dream of finally being able to offer our students an Abnormal Psychology text steeped in Canadian content, a reality.

“Hal is indeed an author’s editor. We had a vision for our Canadian adaptation but without Hal’s wisdom, advice, encouragement, compassion, loyalty, dedication and competence, the promise of that vision would have been unfulfilled.”

MAGAZINES/PROJECT MANAGEMENT

Creating 19 magazines annually, I collaborate with teams at 3 PBS stations, plus the Tourism Director for Upper Cumberland Tourism, to develop story ideas, assign articles to writers (or write them myself), review and edit content, design the publications, shoot photos when necessary and ensure the magazine aligns with its overall vision and brand.
